User Experience

This phone might not appeal to you in the first look. Back cover feels too plasticky and weight of phone is a big issue. However the touch is good and lacks somewhere while playing your favourite games. The micro-USB port is placed at bottom left while 3.5mm jack is at the top alongside power button. SIM card and SD card slot is inside the back cover behind the battery. There are 4 feather touch buttons at the bottom, volume rocker is placed on left of the handset. As mentioned earlier the weight of this phone increases because of a bigger battery meant to give you longer battery life for all your needs. Overall the phone is feels comfortable in palm and the 4-inch screen with 800*480 resolution is surprisingly good.

Firmware/ Interface

Surfing Internet on this device is a fun with larger text and the response to your touch on links is fast. Icons on the homepage are large and the navigation through 3D cube interface by Spice is a pleasure to eyes. Mi-425 comes with Android 2.3.6 as of now but is upgradable to ICS. The phone also comes with pre-installed apps like Spice Gang, Rail Yatra, Max Bupa, BSE/NSE Stocks, Live Aarti and YouTube.

Processor and Camera

The Spice Mi-425 comes with a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor of Qualcomm and plays most applications efficiently. There is no lagging in scrolling of menu or in any other work. Coming to camera, the Spice Mi-425 has a 5 MP primary camera and a 0.3 MP VGA front camera. The rear or the primary camera is great for clicking pictures in moderate or bright light, however in dull sorroundings it just does not works. The front camera does not get our approval, its way too bad for a smartphone, in other words it’s a compromise.

Battery and other specs

Mi-425 comes with a 2000 mAh Lithium-ion battery stand apart in class as most of the smartphones does not have such a big battery. This gives you 6 hrs of talktime which is quite good. On the downside this humongous battery adds to the weight of the phone. Other usual features are wifi, Bluetooth, GPS etc.

The Specifications of the smartphone are listed below

  • Android OS, v2.3 (Gingerbread), planned upgrade to v4.x
  • 1 GHz Scorpio
  • Dual Sim ( GSM + GSM )

T2C VERDICT

At such a competitive price of INR 9990/- Spice Stellar Mi-425 is undoubtedly a good phone. One cannot just ignore it comparing with other smartphones in this price range. This is a good attempt by Spice to appeal to those section of buyers who doubt the quality and services of Spice products. If you cannot spare more than 10 grands but cannot compromise with features, T2C suggest you to go for it without giving a second thought.
